the year we start recording family history

Each month in 2022, I will post a writing prompt and challenge you to write at least three different variations on that topic. Don’t worry, I promise to do the same!

Before I forget, I don’t expect (or really want you to be) a wordsmith. Don’t worry about spelling or punctuation. Write on the computer or in a notebook or scraps of paper. This is for you. Your future self will thank your past self one day.

What are the stories you have been told over and over again in your family? Any funny sayings or sayings a certain person is known for? Set the stage and write it down!

Photos. A picture is worth a thousand words, so let’s combine words and pictures. Choose some favorite photos, write about who and what is in them. Bonus points for writing about how they make you feel.

Clothing. Did a family member only wear a certain color or maybe a favorite article of clothing? Did you save something special you still have that you know will never fit again?
