the year we start recording family history

Each month in 2022, I will post a writing prompt and challenge you to write at least three different variations on that topic. Don’t worry, I promise to do the same!

Before I forget, I don’t expect (or really want you to be) a wordsmith. Don’t worry about spelling or punctuation. Write on the computer or in a notebook or scraps of paper. This is for you. Your future self will thank your past self one day.

Items. Select any item that means something to you or was handed down to you. It can have family meaning or just meaning to you. Tell me about it. Now pick two more!

Sand and ocean

People. Choose your oldest known relative (one you knew personally). Tell me about that person. Tell me a memory about another person you hold dear or maybe one you don’t. Pick one more person, tell me about them.

Food. Did someone always make a favorite dish? Do you have a family recipe that has been handed down. Funny story that involves food? Write them down and bonus points for any recipes included.
